About Danielle H. Friedman, LCSW
I love the work I do! I’ve always been deeply curious about why we behave and respond to others in the ways we do. I believe that healthy relationships with ourselves, our loved ones and our community are key to living a satisfying life. I enjoy helping people to better understand themselves, strengthen connections with others and the world around them and ultimately make positive changes in their lives.
More than 20 years ago I decided to pursue a career in social work. After graduating from UCLA with a double major in Psychology and Sociology, I worked for a non-profit doing program evaluations, but I felt that something was missing and my journey into social work began. I started out as a volunteer working directly with children and families in a grass roots organization. I also took time to travel in South America and soon after worked in a juvenile diversion program in a police department. I decided to pursue my Masters in Social Work at San Jose State University with a specialization in school social work and from there I began my 12-year career with the Mental Health Department of Santa Clara County working with children and families. Some years after becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in California I decided to open my private psychotherapy practice.
I work with a wide range of clients including children and adolescents, families, and individuals to address diverse needs such as trauma recovery, depression, anxiety, school or work difficulties, parenting, relationship issues, stress management and personal growth and development. I am a skilled family therapist and I have many years of experience collaborating with schools and other service providers to provide comprehensive treatment. My approach in therapy is informed by my deep interest in attachment, interpersonal neurobiology, mindfulness and brain science.
I am a Certified Parenting by Connection Instructor through Hand in Hand Parenting (www.handinhandparenting.org). I feel honored to have been providing mental health services through the California Victims of Crime program for over five years. I am a member of the National Association of Social Workers.
